Wine #3 in our 5-wine holiday wine countdown: Planet Oregon 2015 Pinot Noir

Finding under-$20 Oregon pinot noir?  Not a problem.

Finding  good under-$20 Oregon pinot noir?  That’s where it gets tricky.

After a steady succession of lofty reviews and a string of wonderful vintages, Oregon pinot noir is on fire.

Demand is up.  So are prices.

The quest to find an Oregon pinot with a good QPR…quality-price ratio…has become a constant challenge.  Thus, we are happy to say we’ve met the challenge with 2015 Planet Oregon.

Planet Oregon is a sub-brand of the highly-acclaimed Soter Vineyards.  Soter says they grow the grapes for Planet Oregon wine “in the most sustainable way we can.”   $1 from the proceeds from every bottle of Planet Oregon goes to the Oregon Environmental Council.

While Planet Oregon has a nice “green” story behind it,  it’s also just darn good pinot, an easy-drinking balance between earth and fruit, particularly strawberry.  Soter calls it “a wine you can enjoy on a Tuesday and feel great about”.  Let me suggest you could also enjoy it on a Wednesday.  Or a Thursday.  Or…well, you get the picture.

Note: we only found two stores around town that carry Planet Oregon, Fred Meyer and Market of Choice.  Fortunately, FM and MOC collectively have many locations spread throughout the metro area.
